Since fans in EDM culture have seen right through the publicity circus of what is now the DJ Mag Top 100, it’s only a matter of time before someone comes out with a more credible ranking system. Topple Track, an anti piracy platform for artists and musicians, and JustGo Music, a social media monitoring company, have teamed up to try and do just that.

Their formula seems to be more objective than the “let’s see who has the most money to pay publicists” methodology that DJ Mag implements. Essentially, Topple Track/Just Go take the number of social media followers/fans a DJ has, and combine it with the number of followers/fans gained in that particular year. The former is weighed more heavily.
They also look at a DJ’s mentions on google as well as the amount DCMA copy right violation notifications a DJs music receives (how many times was the DJs music posted/downloaded illegally). This figure then accounts for about ten percent of the overall score.
Their 2013 rankings are posted in the image above. While Hardwell’s ranking remained the same, there are some interesting variances from the DJ Mag poll.
